About the Award

What is the AB Sir Student of the Year Award?

The AB Sir Student of the Year Award is an initiative dedicated to promoting inclusive leadership, positive thinking, courage, and compassionate changemaking among students in Sirajganj district. Each year, between 60–100 students from different schools and colleges across the district are recognized for their hard work, perseverance, leadership, and commitment to creating positive change in their communities.

The program especially values students who face challenges with resilience, think critically about social issues, and have the courage to question unfair systems in thoughtful and constructive ways.

Award recipients receive medals, certificates, publication opportunities, and surprise gifts in recognition of their efforts and impact.

About Him

Who is AB Sir?

Md. Abdul Baset, widely known as AB Sir among his students, was born on February 2, 1989, in Horgati village under Raiganj Upazila of Sirajganj District. From an early age, he was respected for his hardworking mentality and character. After completing his Alim under the Madrasa Education Board, he earned his Master's degree from the University of Dhaka.

Through the 34th BCS (Non-Cadre), he joined B.L. Government High School as a teacher. In his professional life, he was known for his sense of responsibility and commitment to education. He served as a debate judge, contributed to the establishment of the B.L. Government High School Debate Club, provided free instruction to underprivileged students, hosted various cultural programs, and raised funding for various social initiatives.

Despite encountering challenges while advocating for the legitimate interests of students at his own workplace, he remained firm in his principles. In July 2021, he left the earth at the age of 32 in a tragic road accident. However, he continues to live in the hearts of his students.
